THE STAR IS BORN:

The History of the Movie Star in America from Florence Lawrence and Valentino to Heath Ledger

Florence Lawrence, the first actor to be considered a Movie Star in the United States was featured in The Mended Lute, the first film made in Cuddebackville in 1909.  Her actual "stardom" didn't come until 1910 after she left the Biograph Company.

In this exhibit, which runs from April 16th Through October 30th, we explore, through photographs and artifacts, the history of Movie Stars in the U.S. to the present day.

There is a sections which asks YOU, the visitor, to ponder what "stardom" really means.

Here are some pictures:

A panel about Gloria Swanson.

A golf hat worn by Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and film executive Fred Leahy.

A Mickey Mouse Tea Set.

Liza Minnelli's hat from Cabaret (and a Liza Fan). For a donation, you can have your picture taken wearing Liza's hat (by appointment only), so give us a call and look like a star yourself! (845-754-8870)

A nod to our Orange County neighbors, West Point, in a case of miscellaneous Star Artifacts.

From magazine covers to Facebook tributes, Heath Ledger was truly a Movie Star.

A collage of some stars of today.
