Lenape Native American Field Trip Program

Kids using traditional mortar and pestle

An interactive field trip for students from the first to fourth grade on the history of the Lenape Native Americans!

This educational, interactive field trip program is hands-on and exploratory, involving all of the senses as much as possible to excite student's interest in the lives of the Lenape.

Hands-on activities include:

Kids digging in the Three Sister's Garden
  • Guessing games comparing natural materials with finished products that would have been created by the Lenape
  • Playing musical instruments, listening to Lenape music, wearing Lenape necklaces and learning Lenape words
  • Demonstrations of farming, fishing and food gathering, where students actually dig a Three Sister's Garden and use a mortar and pestle.
  • Making and decorating a pinch pot to take home!
  • Handling actual Lenape tools used hundreds of years ago.

Cost per Program

We provide FREE for teachers a packet of follow-up ready-to-photocopy activities! The cost of the program is $4.50 per student, all teachers and chaperones free.
